Asti and the Monferrato
Wine world, the Monferrato, with its sweet hills, is earth of unforgettable tastes and big beauties, starting from its main town, Asti. Caretaker of the widest low-medieval estate in Piemonte, from memory of what was the most powerful Piemontese council, Asti preserves towers, domus and buildings. Between the most important churches you find the Santa Maria Assunta’s Cathedral, considered the most important gothic cathedral in Piemonte, the Collegiata di San Secondo, where you find the relics of the saint patron, and the Madonna del Portone church, that preserves the medieval door of San Marco inside.
From the baroque time you find a lot of buildings and churches in Asti, thanks also to the important contribution given by the presence of the Architect Benedetto Alfieri. Remember the Santa Caterina’s Church, the San Paolo’s Church.
Casale Monferrato Town rich in art and history, it presents in its historical centre interesting baroque and renaissance monuments. You have to see the Cathedral dedicated to Sant’Evasio of the XIIth century, one of the beautiful cathedrals in Lombardo romantic style in Piemonte. It is characterized for its imposing façade like a cabin made by brownstone and brick, rich in “before” and trifore” and enclosed between two ancient bell towers from the 1200; but most of all for the exceptional and rare Nartece, real static masterpiece.
The Building was reconstructed in the second half of the 1400; then, Casale became the capital of Monferrato. At the end of the 1700 the castle was transformed into a military store and it is used in this way still today.
Spumante Asti It is the most important spumante in Italy, exported for about the 80% around the world. It is pallet yellow, soft with green reflexes, slight and persistent small bubbles. Softly perfume with muscat and sweet taste. You have to serve it fresh and it is really good with sweets and desserts.
