Abruzzo National Park
The Abruzzo National Park is the most famous and ancient protected in Italy, officially recognized the institution from the Italian State in 1923.For some years already the area was protected as hunt reserve wanted by King Vittorio Emanuele. Today this small piece of Appenines is the reign of really important animal species as the Chamois from Abruzzo, the Wolf, the Deer, the Lynx, the Otter, the Wild Cat, the Field Vole of the snows, the Roe Deer and so many others mammalians.
Between the birds we remember the Real Eagle, the peregrine Falcon, the so rare Eagle owl, the alpine Chaffinch and the rare and elusive Woodpecker dorsowhite. At all the Park’s fauna counts 60 mammalians species, 230 birds, 40 between repents, amphibious and fish and more than 6000 insects.
The animal symbol of the Park is the Marsicano Brown Bear, species at risk of extinction that nowadays counts people of about 100 exemplars distributed in the area of the park or in the close massive. Not less rich is the flora counting 200 species of superior plants to which you must add mosses, lichens and mushrooms. Really suggesting are the erosive phenomenon produced by the rain and the rivers as the Sangro, the Melfa, the Giovenco and the Volturno.
Inside the Park, we find some interesting natural lakes as the Lake Vivo, the Pantaniello’s Lake and the Scanno’s Lake, beyond the artificial basins of the Broken Mountain and Barrea. Thanks to the visit centres alive in each country of the Park and thanks to the really rich wire of 150 paths, all best signed, visit the park is easy for everybody.
In Abruzzo you can taste the
"spaghetti alla chitarra"
, so called because realized with the help of a beechwood loom, called for this reason, guitar.
